They can also directly link to the digipacks from the album that is going to be released, linking the two together and making them more recognisable to the audience.
I have analysed 3 magazine adverts and compared them to the digipack designs that have been released.
Common Conventions:
- Having the bands record label gives something back to the company allowing the costumers to see what kind of band they help to produce and sell.
- Having an image or artwork that directly links to the artist/band showing their image and style or theme of the album. However this may not be the case for all artists/bands some choose to have a fairly unique edge to their adverts using modern art. This is used to portray a deeper meaning to the music that they have produced, but will ultimately link top the artists vision. For example, The Verve released 'Love is Noise' with this advert. This was then made into the album cover that this song was released into. the design of it is very unusual, suggesting that love is many a thing, but it is vast. The design also contradicts the title of the song as the title has the word, 'noise' in it and the scene that is presented is a peaceful sky setting.
- The album name will be in the second largest font on the page with the band name being the largest.
- It may also feature a list of the songs featured within an album, however this is not very common and is usually on 'the best of' type albums where they are revisiting previous well known songs.
