Costume ideas

The costumes that I am going to use in this music video will be very conventional to the genre, having a more modern approach to a country music video.
This outfit is the typical type of clothing that I will use in my music video.
The only problem with these costumes is that I will be filming in winter so I may have to have a leather jacket to go with the outfit to make the filming bearable.
Small ankle boots for the female will  give an almost dainty  look to her implying a side of vulnerability to the character.

This would be the ideal costume for my male actor in the music video as it displays an edgy character, which I would like to portray in the video.

These would be the best style of shoes that I would like my model to wear in the music video.

Make-up ideas

This would be the ideal make-up that I would use and recreate in my music video as I am trying to make it as realistic as possible.

This is a very subtle, natural look and it is as if she is wearing no makeup at all! The light browns that I used are almost unnoticeable and gives the natural look. I don't want the makeup to have a dramatic impact like on some pop music videos as I want this video to focus on the narrative.

I feel the natural look helps bring out the colour of the eyes and allows the model to express emotions more when acting.

These designs may change during different scenes, especially during performance sections to create more drama with less acting.

Location searching...

So I found the perfect location on holiday this year, and found myself with the task of finding somewhere where I could realistically film a music video. And I have found it!
I will use many different sections of this house in my music video including the garden and inside a bit. These pictures show the main areas that I will be using in the house.
The Front door of the property has the perfect layout that I would need in my music video with space inside to potentially ave a split screen between two scenes.
Inside the front door there is enough space to place a camera and be able to fit in the lady sitting down by the wall. This will enable me to achieve the split screen element in my music video.

The stair case will only be featured a little during the music video but I thought it important to use the correct looking one. this staircase will allow me to achieve different angles when coming down the stairs and it is also very light and gives a nice natural lighting that I am keen to use.

This area is a great space that I can film the 'flash back' memories in. As well as having it for my tracking shot of walking feet ( however it may be hard to achieve a 'smooth' look to the tracking shot so i may have to come up with a plan B!).

The garden has a perfect layout to it with different sections marked by particular  features. These steps stood out to  me as they have the grande style that I originally wanted. I will use these steps for particular 'flash backs' in the video.

The garden on this property is beautiful and it would be a shame not to use it! I am planning to use this a lot in my music video for performance elements.

Analysis of Magazine Adverts

Magazine adverts for new albums give a wide scope for their designs as they don't always have to be conventional. Many are very artistic and may not feature the artist but just a concept with many meanings, others can be quite ordinary featuring just the artist or band and the usual instruments.
They can also directly link to the digipacks from the album that is going to be released, linking the two together and making them more recognisable to the audience.
I have analysed 3 magazine adverts and compared them to the digipack designs that have been released.

Common Conventions:

  • Having the bands record label gives something back to the company allowing the costumers to see what kind of band they help to produce and sell.
  • Having an image or artwork that directly links to the artist/band showing their image and style or theme of the album. However this may not be the case for all artists/bands some choose to have a fairly unique edge to their adverts using modern art. This is used to portray a deeper meaning to the music that they have produced, but will ultimately link top the artists vision. For example, The Verve released 'Love is Noise' with this advert. This was then made into the album cover that this song was released into. the design of it is very unusual, suggesting that love is many a thing, but it is vast. The design also contradicts the title of the song as the title has the word, 'noise' in it and the scene that is presented is a peaceful sky setting.
  • The album name will be in the second largest font on the page with the band name being the largest.
  • It may also feature a list of the songs featured within an album, however this is not very common and is usually on 'the best of' type albums where they are revisiting previous well known songs.

Analysis of Digipaks

For our coursework we are producing a digipak as a promotional tool for our music video. To help with the planning and production of this digipak I have analysed 3 different digipaks from a range of genres.

The Mcfly pop style is used consistantly through the digipak and it clearly reflects the target audience.

All of the digipaks that I have analysed have shown  a direct link to the genre of music from a slightly different take on the traditional pop digipak using pop art to display the band from the usual photograph of the band or artist. Then you have a contrast with a very personal approach of the rap digipak giving an insight into his past life, allowing the fans to directly link to the artist and feel more involved in his life.
The pop punk digipak is probably the most disconnected from the fans due to the fact it has nothing directly linked to the audience, however it focuses more on the music and quirky design and suggests that their fans are very dedicated and do not really need 'encouragment' to enjoy or appreciate the music.
